Stolen from BBF.
As of now, most of you have heard about the situation regarding Fernando and his business in Pittsburgh. Economy hasn't treated him well lately, and word got out that he'll be closing down in just a few days.
Now, these businesses come and go, and Anthrocon has seen many places open and close in the few years it has been in Pittsburgh. Steel City Diner, Big Mama's, to name the most popular. However, Fernando wasn't just some Snack Shack that just happened to be within walking distance of Anthrocon. It was much more:
- Fernando's was the first business to open its doors and welcome furries with wide open arms. Paw prints on the streets, special offers, most of you have seen it.
- Fernando was the driving force behind the huge welcome Anthrocon and furries experience in Pittsburgh every year. He even renamed his place to "Furnandos" during Anthrocon and allowed a furry web radio station to broadcast from inside his business.
- When some furries got in trouble with a violent person, Fernando stepped in and helped them, getting hurt in the process.
- Fernando was the one who put all competitive thoughts aside. When Cory's opened just across the street from the Westin, Fernando helped him making sure he'd be prepared for the big rush.
From what I've learned, it only would have taken $4000 to keep Fernando in business till after Anthrocon 2012. In no time, furries raised enough money to fill this hole in Fernando's pockets. But there is more:
$10.000 would help him cross the bumpy road that the economy has left behind and keep him in business for many many years to come. We could have our maple bacon doughnuts and lasagna wraps at Anthrocon 2013 and beyond!
As I'm writing this, the furry fandom has raised about $9000 to keep Fernando's in business, and I honestly think it is possible to reach that goal.
I can't say how proud I am of the furry fandom right now. Even in light of a struggling economy that has had its impact on quite a lot of us, the fandom stands together to help someone who stood up for us and welcomed us without prejudices or doubts.
This week, I can truly say that I'm proud to be a furry. And I don't say that often.
Please, keep going, the goal is so close already.

| RTR highlights from Year 2 |
[Apr. 3rd, 2012|11:49 pm] |
A couple of years ago shortly after I joined Facebook, I created a page for the RTR Show and posted all of the highlight videos to-date there...that is except for three of them because they were over FB's 20-minute video duration limit. I'm finally getting around to shaving a few minutes off from each of them. So here now is the clip reel from Year 2 covering 1984.

Hey pawpets and fans! I'm sorry it's been a while since I posted, but Americorps NCCC is keeping me busy. We're heading to Portland, OR next week to help Habitat for Humanity build houses for 2 months. Anyway, I thought you all might like this song :)
